A few simple things you can do before calling for furnace service.

  • Make sure your filter is not too dirty. Sometimes if the furnace does not breathe, it can cause it to shut down. The filter should be changed every 3 months.
  • Check drain pipes to make sure they are clean and draining properly.
  • Is your blower motor door properly attached? If not, it can shut down as a safety mechanism.
  • Check your gas! Is the furnace getting the gas it needs? Make sure it’s in the ‘on’ position.
  • Go to your electrical box and make sure the breaker that corresponds is in the ‘on’ position.
  • Look for a switch. Sometimes it’s in the off position. This can be like a regular light switch or a lever that switches between your Furnace and Washer/Dryer.
  • Make sure your thermostat is set to the proper setting. Heat for Winter and Cool for Summer!
